EARTH DAY WITH CAMBRIDGE ELEMENTARY 2ND GRADE CLASSES

While the students are busy learning all year long about recycling, community pride, and keeping our earth clean and litter free, Earth Day/Week is just an extra special time to focus on these important issues. The kids had a busy week, April 20th - 24th, Allied Waste came out and taught them Garbage Truck safety, Eagle Enterprise Came out and taught them about recycling, they visited the Sewer Plant on the edge of town, among other things through out the week.
On Friday, April 24th after visiting the Sewer Plant the students then came to College Square Park where they enjoyed a sack lunch, some play time and then back to work they went. Cambridge Main Street met them after lunch and we talked about how proud we were of our Junior Main Street Members for coming out on this day to help us pick up litter in the park, and to learn about the Rain Garden. We reminded them that any time they are at the park or any where and they see trash or garbage that a good citizen should pick up that litter to help keep their community looking beautiful at all times.
We supplied the students with gloves, buckets, and 3 categories, trash, sticks, and recycables and once the students were seperated into 8 different groups they were sent off with a leader and were on there way to making College Square Park litter free.
Mary Grant was kind enough to come in to do a wonderful presentation and explaination on the purpose of the Rain Garden for the students.
Trish and Terry Reed supplied the buckets for the students to use to pick up the litter and Trish was on hand to lead one of the groups.
Lynn Raley supplied the gloves for the students and was on hand to lead one of the groups.
Thank you to Mr. Hamerlinck and Mrs. Stockwell's substiute teacher for allowing CMS to be a part of your day. A special Thank you to all of the parents chaperoning the field trip who may not have known they were in for trash detail but who were right in there with the kids as well.
